In the 1890s , the Pennsylvania Chautauqua Society chose to establish Mt. Gretna, lured by the area's natural allure. Today, that same charm endures — with rolling, wooded hills, a meandering stream, and a serene lake. As summer unfolds, the Chautauqua's legacy of education and culture continues, showcasing top-notch offerings in music, theater, and art. As the air turns crisper, Mt. Gretna dons some of the most breathtaking foliage in the Northeast. When winter arrives, cross-country skiers revel in meticulously groomed, picturesque trails. Spring blankets the landscape in a serene, green calm, enveloping acres of protected Gamelands laced with extensive trails for both mountain biking and hiking enthusiasts.
